FAQ’s
Does it hurt?
Many people say they would like to try acupuncture but are held back by the worry it will be painful. Acupuncture uses very fine needles, that once inserted give the sensation a mild ache or tingling which often then gives way into a pleasant warmth. Some people remain aware of the needles throughout the session and others forget all about them.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is different and each treatment is specific to that individual, so the time it takes for recovery varies from person to person.
Acute conditions (those which come on suddenly) can often gain relief quickly, whereas chronic, long term conditions often require more treatment.
It is normal to begin with weekly treatments, as acupuncture has a cumulative effect. I continually monitor progress and discuss treatment expectation and outcomes with my patients.
Is it safe?
As a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (AAC), my treatments are carried out in accordance with their codes of safe practice and professional conduct. The treatment room and equipment conform to AAC standards and have been approved by the local authority environmental health department.
All needles are single-use, pre-sterilised stainless steel.

Apart from Acupuncture, what other treatments might I receive?
Moxibustion or Moxa uses the herb Mugwort which is burned on or near the skin to warm and nourish acupuncture channels and points.
Cupping involves placing a glass or Perspex cup on the body, using a flame or a pump to create a vacuum. This is most often used for treating sore or aching muscles and works by moving Qi or Blood in the affected area. Cupping may be integrated into your acupuncture treatment or you may wish to book it as a stand alone treatment.
Guasha is carried out by lightly 'scraping' a tool over the skin and is used in a similar way to cupping.
What should I wear?
Many commonly used points are located on the lower arms and legs, so it is helpful to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
I always offer a blanket for warmth and modesty.
